Redaction software for lawyers: filings versus AI work
Lawyers need two different kinds of redaction. For court filings and disclosure, use a permanent redaction tool: Adobe Acrobat Pro for most practices, Redactable for cloud workflows with audit trails, Objective Redact or CaseGuard for high-volume or multimedia work. For using AI on client documents, permanent redaction destroys what you need back; a stand-in and restore tool such as PiBye fits that job.

Two jobs, often confused
Filing redaction removes information forever, so the public or opposing counsel cannot recover it. AI preparation hides client identity from an AI provider while you work, and needs the real details back in the finished draft. Many “AI redaction” tools are the first kind with AI-assisted detection.

Which is best for you: choose by the job
Choose Acrobat Pro if you file redacted PDFs regularly and want the standard tool; be aware of user-reported issues on scanned documents discussed in Adobe’s community forum. Choose Redactable for team workflows that need audit trails and cloud integrations. Choose Objective Redact or CaseGuard for institutional volume or multimedia evidence.
Choose PiBye when you want AI help with a client document and need the real names back in the draft. It is not a filing redaction tool, and a PiBye copy should never be used as a redacted filing.
