Does Claude train on your conversations?
For consumer Claude accounts, it is your choice. Anthropic’s August 2025 terms update gives users “the choice to allow their data to be used to improve Claude.” If you allow it, data retention extends to five years; if you decline, Anthropic keeps its 30-day retention period. Claude Team and Enterprise content is not used for training by default.

Consumer accounts
Anthropic announced updates to its consumer terms and privacy policy on 28 August 2025. Users choose whether to allow their data to be used to improve Claude. Opting in means “extending data retention to five years”; declining means you “continue with our existing 30-day data retention period.” Anthropic adds: “You’re always in control of this setting.”
Team and Enterprise plans
Anthropic’s pricing page lists model training on Team and Enterprise content as “None by default.” Team seats were listed from $20 a month per seat on an annual plan when we checked.
Training is not the only question
Whether or not a conversation trains a model, Anthropic receives and processes what you share, and retains it for a period. For client or patient information, the better input is one with identifying details removed. Settings and terms change, so check them before relying on them.
