Occlira and PiBye: the closest comparison on the market
Occlira is the product most like PiBye: local processing on Windows and Apple Silicon, a review step, and the same round trip of removing personal values and restoring them in the AI's reply. It costs 149 euros once and covers more file formats and languages. PiBye costs less, runs only on macOS, and is built around Canadian and US legal and immigration paperwork, including completed PDF forms and a published test record.
Key takeaway: Choose Occlira for spreadsheets, email files, audio, images or a language beyond English and French. Choose PiBye for macOS legal and immigration documents, completed PDF forms, and published evidence of how the detector performs.

What Occlira does well
Occlira's own site describes stripping names, identifiers and faces out of documents, audio and photos entirely on the user's computer, with documents and personal data staying on the device rather than being uploaded or synced. After an answer comes back, it says the real values slot straight in.
It covers more ground than PiBye in four measurable ways. It runs on Windows 10 and 11 as well as Apple Silicon. It reads DOCX, PDF, XLSX, EML, TXT, MD and CSV, plus audio and image files. It detects in seven languages: English, German, French, Italian, Russian, Dutch and Spanish. And it keeps a local audit log of what was processed, with no personal data in it.
It also publishes an accuracy claim, roughly 97 percent of sensitive values found on a legal-document benchmark. We have not reproduced that benchmark and cannot verify it, but a published number is more than most tools in this category offer.
Where the two differ
Facts about Occlira come from its own site, opened on 25 September 2026. Prices are as published on that date.
| Occlira | PiBye | |
|---|---|---|
| Platform | Windows 10/11 and macOS on Apple Silicon | macOS on Apple Silicon |
| Processing | On the device, per its site | On your Mac; no PiBye cloud |
| Restoring details | Real values slot back into the answer | Restores details in returned drafts and files, flagging altered stand-ins |
| File types | DOCX, PDF, XLSX, EML, TXT, MD, CSV, audio, images | PDF including scans (OCR), Word .docx, Markdown and text |
| Languages | Seven, including French and Spanish | English and French |
| Completed PDF forms | Not described on its site | Lock PDF flattens a completed form into a static copy for a client to read |
| Activity log | Local audit log, no personal data | Not yet; on the roadmap |
| Published test record | An accuracy percentage on an unnamed benchmark | 50,119 real documents, with the survivors and the over-redaction measured and listed |
| Price | 149 euros once, free updates within the major version | Free for 10 documents, then $99 CAD once, 12 months of updates |
Both products process locally and both restore values into an answer. Neither of those is a point of difference between them.
Who should choose which
Choose Occlira if your work arrives as spreadsheets or email files, if you need audio or images cleaned, if you or a colleague works on Windows, or if you need a language beyond English and French. Its audit log is also the better answer today if your regulator expects a record of what was processed.
Choose PiBye if you work on a Mac with Canadian or US legal, tax and immigration paperwork, if you need completed PDF forms turned into static copies clients can read without breaking the fields, and if you want to see the evidence behind the detector rather than a single percentage. Our test record publishes what survived redaction and what we were removing by mistake.
PiBye is free for your first 10 documents, then 99 against 149 euros, so it is a low-risk way to find out whether this kind of tool fits your practice at all. If it does and you need the formats or languages above, Occlira is a fair place to go next, and we would rather say so than pretend otherwise.
Where PiBye fits
How PiBye handles this
PiBye imports the document on your Mac, detects names, contact details, dates and identifiers, including in scans, and shows every finding for you to approve, keep or edit before a copy exists.
Returned drafts come back through PiBye, which restores the real details locally and flags any stand-in the AI altered.

Frequently asked questions
Is Occlira local like PiBye?
Yes. Its site says documents and personal data stay on the device, not uploaded and not synced. Local processing is not a difference between the two products.
Does PiBye handle spreadsheets?
No. PiBye reads PDF including scans, Word .docx, Markdown and text. If your work is mostly XLSX or CSV, Occlira covers those and PiBye does not.
Which one is more accurate?
We cannot say. Occlira publishes about 97 percent on a legal-document benchmark it does not name, and we have not reproduced it. Our own figures come from 50,119 public documents and are published in full, including what we got wrong.
